Craving Comforting Carbs? Crumb Queen's Your Gal

Updated: Dec 24, 2024

Crumb Queen and Andy's Lunch, a match made in heaven.

Just Get Up & Go

We all have places that are on our 'must visit' list, but to get to them is another story. Time constraints, budget, distance and the decision to decide to just go. I had been meaning to check out Crumb Queen & Andy's Lunch in Winnipeg for quite some time. It wasn't until I had seen on Instagram that they had been named one of Air Canada's Best New Restaurants. Surely now, I had to go. If not now, then when?!

I parked down the street in Osborne Village. Now, you need to be willing to walk atleast a block, maybe two, to get to where you want to go in Osborne Village, IYKYK. Unless you're one of the lucky folk to snag premo parking. I had driven past this all-encompassing shop based building several times before but had never been inside. I was pleasantly surprised as the vibes inside, surely did not match the outside of the building. Dashing in and out on a lunch hour, I took a quick gander at their menu and offerings, and overwhelmingly wishes to simply take one of everything. Alas, my nut allergy led the way. This was one instance where I was committed to going full on gluten. Not resting easy today!

Too Good To Put Down

Whenever led with two choices and if the wallet allows, just go with the two choices. You won't be dissapointed. Caught between a spinach ricotta panini and a homemade bahn mi on ciabatta...what's a girl to do? Spinach, ricotta, cipollini onion and smoked provolone on an absolute flaky, pillow dreamy crispy pastry puff...it was fabulous. It was ooey gooey, creamy, comforting and I clearly didn't make it far out of the building before diving in for a bite. Well worth the $10.

Bahn For Mi, Bahn For You

Next on the list was their special of the day, the bahn mi. Roasted pork, cilantro, aioli and pickled veggies tucked into a ciabatta bun. $17 and again worth every single bite. Cilantro lovers unite with this Vietnamese classic. Soap tasters stear clear. There was just the right amount of sweet and spicy with some heat. It was fresh, full of flavour, zesty and enough to keep your pants tight after lunch. The best part of doubleing up on lunchtime sandos? Sharesies with your bestie or co-worker. I mean, you must really like your co-worker to share sammies from this place.

Now last but not least, after getting savoury in the bag I needed to add sweet. I went for their famous honey crullers and their massive apple fritters. Both pastries were every bit and bite of comforting carb heaven that one could hope for. I had brought the apple fritter home to share and needless to say it was gone. No photos. Just remnants of many mmm's and 'ohhhh yeah that's good'.

There were quite a few other sweet and savoury offerings to try along with items on their menu. I'd like to come back for a sit in visit and to order goods off the menu and stay awhile for a coffee.

Also, if you're not completely satisfied by taking sandwhich selfies when you get home, I really don't know what to tell ya. So visit Andy and the Crumb Queen.
