This Winnipeg submarine sandwhich shop is serving up more than just sass and slang.
Order A Side of Insult & Insane Flavour
There aren't many places I've been too where you can order up a tasty dish, while being insulted at the same time. You know you're at home with a hefty helping at Hoagie Boyz in Winnipeg. I had heard about this strange sandwhich place in Osborne Village that had gained popularity for its bizarre bun n bread creations. It was only a matter of time until I were to go check it out.
A Hoagie for Dad
Low and behold, it was this past summer for Father's Day that I decided I wanted to take my dad for the ultimate hoagie sandwhich. Hence, my first trip to Hoagie Boyz. A little backstory here first. My dad grew up in Toronto, going to classic small sandwhich shops and diving into engourging hoagies from the classic street corner vendor routinely. I thought this year I would treat him to a taste down memory lane.
Good Ass Ham
We got more than we bargained for here, in the best ways possible. The weird, the WTF and the WOW that's a dang good sub. I ordered their Italian Standard, one for dad, one for me.
ITALIAN STANDARD - Salami, pepperoni, good ass ham, giardinara, provolone, zesty Jesse's dressing, shredduce (shredded lettuce), onion, sub sauce. For a good time, add mayo. (You definitely want to add mayo).
Dad was really happy that they even happened to have a cold classic Coca Cola in a bottle. I don't drink pop, but apparently the difference in taste is quite notable. Nostalgic too! Now back to the sub. The Italian Standard was every little bit of wonderful wrapped up in a pillowy 10" sesame italian roll. Snugged so tightly, the meat and cheese combo, the shredded lettuce, the zesty italian sub sauce with the giardinara... it certainly slaps. Hard. You'll thank the cozy christmas wrapping for keeping your present bundled and adequately edible.
Slam A Hoagie To The Dome
With more than 10 different subs on their menu, salads, sides, 'dranks' and add-ons, you can even order scrambled eggs and a round of ha-ha's for the staff. I haven't since ordered any other sub and to be honest, I'm not sure I will. I like this one so much. The struggle is real. Oh and did I mention they now have #glutenfree buns for their subs? I went and tried one a few weeks ago and it did not dissapoint. Highly recommend.
Hoagie Boyz is open 7 days a week on Osborne Street in Winnipeg and are waiting for you to walk through the door to come and slam a hoagie to the dome.
